Lore & Background

Cope named two species: Coelurus longicollis and Coelurus bauri, the latter named after German paleontologist Georg Baur. Later that year, Cope reclassified the material into the genus Tanystrophaeus, creating Tanystrophaeus longicollis and Tanystrophaeus bauri, and also named Tanystrophaeus willistoni.
